Coach Berkman is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA men's lacrosse history as he begins his 31st season at the helm for 12-time national champion Salisbury University in 2019.

Berkman has compiled a 522-56 (.903) record at SU. He broke the NCAA mark for all-time coaching victories in the 2008 NCAA tournament with a win against Ohio Wesleyan University to surpass the former mark of 326 wins held by U.S. Military Academy coach Jack Emmer. Berkman's career record entering the 2019 season is 531-61 (.896) as he spent one successful season at the State University of New York at Potsdam.

In recognition of his outstanding resume, Berkman has been recognized as the CAC Coach of the Year ten times (1996, 2002-08, 2010, 2012, and 2016) and was the recipient of the Francis "Babe" Kraus award in 1991, 2008 and 2012 as the Division III National Coach of the Year.
